Zmation, Inc. Announces 4^th Generation Fiber Align & Attach System

   Portland, OR, USA---Zmation, Inc. announced today that they have shipped and installed a 4^th Generation fiber optic Align & Attachment system at a major photonics component manufacturer’s facility. This system will be used to actively align and attach fibers to both active and passive photonics components in a wide variety of packages.

 This 4^th Generation semi-automated system allows easy operator loading of metalized fibers and a component packages. The system automatically finds and aligns a Polarization Maintaining (PM) or Wedge lens fiber using a machine vision algorithm. The fiber is then inserted into the package, automatically aligned to 0.1 mm tolerances, and laser bonded in position. The system utilizes commercially available motion, vision, laser, and test equipment technology to provide production reliability and future serviceability. Craig D. Howard, president of Zmation, stated that “this 4^th generation system configuration has incorporated the process experience gained in previous generations and incorporates new techniques to reduce component assembly cycle times.”
