Zmation, Inc Announces
Fiber Optic Hermetic Tube Sealing System
Portland, OR, USA---Zmation, Inc. announced today that they have shipped and installed a Fiber optic Hermetic Tube Sealing system at a major photonics component manufacturer’s facility. This system will be used to hermetically fill the tube used for fiber insertion into in a wide variety of photonic packages.
This semi-automated system allows easy operator loading of a photonic component package with fiber pigtail attached. The system positions a solder dispensing head above the fiber tube and dispenses a predetermined amount of fluxless solder into the tube to produce a hermetic seal. The process required closed loop heating of the solder tube, precisely controlled solder flow rates, good volumetric control, and an understanding of the fluid dynamics that occurs during sealing. The system utilizes commercially available motion and soldering technologies to provide production reliability and future serviceability. The customer’s process engineer stated, “This system has incorporated the process experience gained in our manual operations and will allow for semi-automated operation and vast improvements in reliability and production throughput.”
