The 4th Generation fiber optic Align & Attachment system
is designed to be used to
actively align and attach fibers to both active and passive photonics components
in a wide variety of packages.
This 4th Generation semi-automated system allows easy operator
loading of metalized fibers and a component packages. The system automatically
finds and aligns a Polarization Maintaining (PM) or Wedge lens fiber using a
machine vision algorithm. The fiber is then inserted into the package,
automatically aligned to 0.1
mm
tolerances, and laser bonded in position. The system utilizes commercially
available motion, vision, laser, and test equipment technology to provide
production reliability and future serviceability. The system configuration
incorporates new techniques to reduce
component assembly cycle times.
